Billiardsplaying trends
From The Encyclopaedia Expurgatia
Billiardsplaying trends start up without notice, and tend to die away just as quickly. It happens all the time, especially in cities like Chicago and Atlantis. No one has yet been able to accurately predict the length of a given trend or the span of a given lull between the given trends. Furthermore, there seems to be no identifiable pattern to these trends, so it's really anyone's guess as to how to go about being prepared for an upcoming instalment of pool madness.
It is important to have a general idea of when the next trend is going to start. If a player catches on to the trend a split second too late, he won't be able to get in on the festivities; there are only so many tables for all interested parties. On the other hand, to jump into the frenzy too soon, or before it happens, is going to cause a severe billiards faux pas: standing alone amidst a row of abandoned tables, hoping to find someone else to play the game; this is rarely possible; usually, when more than one contender wants to play, everyone wants to play, resulting in the trend.
